The rind of Greek mandarins is used to make this essential oil. Its aroma is extremely fruity, fresh, refreshing and invigorating. It is used in aromatherapy and has antiseptic, antispasmodic, tonic and other properties. It is gently relaxing and tonic for the nervous system and soothing.
According to Greek mythology, citrus fruits, or golden apples, were the dowry of Zeus’s bride. Hera kept the citrus gardens hidden, most likely in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The gardens were guarded by the Hesperides, three nymphs whose name means daughters of the twilight and each of them guarded her own fruit. Aegli guarded the citrons, Arethusa guarded the lemons and Esperethusa guarded the oranges. Hercules stole them in one of his labors and gave them to humans.
